Privacy at Aster

Aster Editor keeps your editing work on your Mac. This policy also explains what happens when you visit this website or email support.

Effective 1 October 2026 · Last updated 1 October 2026

Aster is developed by Pieter Booysen. For privacy questions, access or deletion requests, email support@astereditor.com.

Files and folders you choose

Aster reads and writes only files and folders you select so it can display workspaces and edit documents. The app does not include an Aster account, advertising, analytics, cloud sync, or a service that uploads the files you edit.

Information stored on your Mac

Aster stores file-access bookmarks, workspace preferences, theme and editor settings, and open-document state locally. To recover work after a restart, local snapshots may contain document names and paths, the current text, last-saved text, encoding information, and the selected document.

Recovery snapshots remain in Aster’s Application Support data until the document is saved or discarded, the recovery state is replaced, or the app’s local data is removed.

Purchases and local Pro activation

Aster Editor is planned as a free Mac App Store download with a 30-day trial and an optional one-time in-app purchase for permanent access. Apple processes App Store account, payment, refund, and transaction information under Apple’s privacy policies. Aster does not receive your credit card or billing details.

The planned Pro activation flow uses StoreKit 2 in Aster Editor to create a short-lived .asterkey file with Apple-signed purchase information. Aster Pro checks the file on the same Mac without contacting an Aster server, then stores the activation locally.

Terminal execution & developer tools (Aster Pro)

In Aster Pro (beta), terminal, build, and debug commands run on your Mac with your user permissions. The tools you run may read or change files. Aster itself does not send your terminal input, output, scripts, or debug sessions to an Aster server.

Aster Editor runs in Apple's App Sandbox and does not include a terminal or external build tools.

Support email

If you email support, we receive your email address, message, and any files you choose to attach. We use them to reply and investigate your request. The mailbox is hosted by Domains.co.za. Please do not send passwords or private project files unless you choose to share them to explain an issue.

We keep support messages for 12 months after the request is resolved, then delete them unless a longer period is required by law. You can request access, correction, or earlier deletion by emailing support@astereditor.com.

Website delivery

The Aster website does not provide an account system, analytics, advertising, or a contact form. It is hosted through OpenAI Sitesand its infrastructure providers. They may process request information such as your IP address, browser details, timestamps, requested pages, and security cookies to deliver and protect the site. Any future analytics or form processing will be disclosed before it is enabled.

Your choices and deletion

You choose which files and folders Aster can open. You can remove Aster’s local preferences, recovery snapshots, and local Pro activation by deleting its application support data or clearing the local activation record. App Store purchase records are managed under your Apple ID account. Requests regarding data processed by Apple should be directed to Apple.
